Transcendent

Synopsis

Halfway through its 26-year voyage to the human colonies on Prosperity, the colony ship Transcendent suffers a catastrophic explosion that tears away its cockpit and kills the crew inside. Medic Troy Hartman survives, but finds himself drifting off-course with disabled engines, no communications and only three days of reserve power.

With guidance from OTTO, the ship’s AI, Troy attempts repairs beyond his limited engineering training while trying to protect those still in hibernation. A desperate spacewalk ends in another explosion, leaving him seriously wounded and undoing his progress. Exhausted and increasingly certain he will die, Troy retreats into the ship’s EarthSim, revisiting memories of family, lost love and the people he could not save.

When OTTO detects a mysterious transmission containing coordinates, Troy devises a desperate escape plan: redirect the ship toward the signal, then use its lander to approach the source. But the discovery that Tara, the commander’s young daughter, is still alive transforms his struggle. Fighting his injuries and the ship’s failing systems, Troy must now carry them both toward an unknown destination that offers their only hope of survival.
